The Principle

"The Principle, Kolmanskop, Namibia" - In the hushed, half-buried silence of Kolmanskop’s forgotten schoolhouse, The Principle emerges as a compelling meditation on wisdom, maturity, and spiritual grounding. This soft, radiant colour edition—captured from the same vantage as The Teachers House—reveals the warmth of Namibian light streaming across sand-filled floors, where once the minds of children were shaped beneath the guidance of a schoolmaster. Time, like the desert wind, has softened the sharp edges of ambition, but the lesson remains.

Ephesians 4:14-15

that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ

Unlike its monochrome sibling, The Principle preserves the hues of decay and the dignity of remembrance. Terracotta walls wear the patina of time, and golden sand pours through shattered doorways, echoing footsteps long departed. Here, every grain underfoot speaks to a greater truth: that the shifting doctrines of this world, like desert winds, can easily overtake the unrooted soul.

Inspired by Ephesians 4:14–15, this work reflects on the role of leadership—not merely to teach, but to establish. The schoolmaster’s dwelling, now succumbing to silence and sand, once stood as a citadel of structure and truth. In colour, we sense the vibrancy that once filled these halls. But the erosion—gradual and unstoppable—warns us: without principle, without truth spoken in love, we are swept into confusion.

There is an extraordinary tension in The Principle. Light and decay. Discipline and desertion. Education and erosion. Yet the scripture offers hope: that through truth, maturity comes—and with it, stability against the tempests of deception.

This colour edition invites collectors to engage not just with history, but with metaphor. It is both a celebration of architectural legacy and a sobering call to stand firm, to teach well, to grow up in all things into Christ.

Whether exhibited alongside its black-and-white counterpart or as a singular visual statement, The Principle offers a layered, nuanced expression of spiritual endurance and societal memory. A powerful addition to luxury interiors and gallery walls, it resonates deeply with connoisseurs of African imagery, Christian collectors, and those who see in ruin not an end—but a lesson.

This open edition print is signed and embossed for authenticity, and forms part of a collection exploring the spiritual symbolism of Southern Africa’s vanishing places.

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.

Film photographs are developed by hand before being scanned using professional equipment. Digital RAW files receive only careful tonal and colour refinement, preserving the integrity of the original photograph.

Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.

The Triptych Collection Sizes

Triptych Size Guide

For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.

In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.

Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.

Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.

Limited Editions

Limited Editions are permanently restricted to 25 prints worldwide, regardless of the size or medium selected.

Once the edition has sold out, no additional prints of that artwork will ever be produced.

Signing & Numbering

Every Open and Limited Edition print is individually signed, embossed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Each Limited Edition print is hand-numbered—for example: 10/25

This indicates the tenth print produced from a total edition of twenty-five.

Many CFP Prints artworks begin with traditional photographic film.

Each negative or transparency is developed by hand using carefully selected chemistry before being professionally scanned for printing. Every stage of the workflow is managed with the objective of faithfully reproducing the original photograph rather than digitally transforming it.

Every photograph represents a real moment, captured through experience, patience and light—not artificial intelligence.

Every CFP Prints artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA)—a signed and embossed document that formally certifies the originality, provenance, and technical details of the artwork.

Issued with both Limited Edition and Open Edition works, the certificate confirms that the artwork was produced exclusively by CFP Prints using museum-quality archival materials and professional printing standards.

Collectors, galleries, and institutions are encouraged to retain the Certificate of Authenticity with the artwork at all times. It forms an important part of the artwork’s provenance and assists in verifying authenticity for resale, exhibition, insurance, and archival cataloguing.
