Cast In Snow
"Cast In Snow, Sutherland, South Africa" - captures a rare, serene moment in the rugged expanse of the Hantam Karoo, as a snowstorm descends gently upon a timeless South African landscape. Taken near Sutherland—the coldest town in South Africa—this evocative work presents the Karoo’s stark beauty in a light rarely witnessed: veiled in fresh, untouched snow.
Psalms 51:7
Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
The composition is minimal yet deeply symbolic. A lone historical mile marker rises from the earth beside tufts of tall, frozen grass—reminiscent of hyssop from the scripture that inspired this piece. A windmill, ever vital in this dry heartland, stands resolute in the background. These everyday elements, now softened by snow, evoke a sacred stillness. Snowflakes drifted down as I stood braving a bitter -9°C wind, camera in hand, no footprints marking the scene—just nature’s quiet offering.
The title “Cast In Snow” is a poetic reinterpretation of “cast in stone”—but here, the snow speaks of purity, of renewal, of something momentary yet eternal. It draws from Psalm 51:7: “Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” The biblical verse infuses the image with contemplative depth, where even the grasses echo the act of spiritual cleansing and grace.
The Hantam Karoo is a land of extremes. Scorching summers give way to biting winters, yet life—resilient and elemental—endures. Sheep farms stretch across endless plains, wildflowers bloom in spring, and ancient windmills stand as silent testimonies to survival and sustenance. Sutherland itself, with its Dutch Reformed church turned Anglo-Boer War fort and Rebelskop battlefield nearby, offers historical context to this hauntingly still scene.
This fine art photograph was taken shortly after I documented the unprecedented Cheetahs in the Snow series in the same region—linking two rare African visual narratives by snow and soul.
“Cast In Snow” is a signed and embossed Limited Edition print, part of an exclusive collection reserved for discerning collectors. With only 25 editions available worldwide, this piece belongs to a rare series that honours the patient pursuit of perfect light, true colour, and is ideal for discerning collectors with an appreciation for authentic African imagery and symbolic storytelling.
This is a signed and embossed Limited Edition print, strictly limited to just 25 pieces, ensuring its exclusivity.

The Collections

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.
Film photographs are developed by hand before being scanned using professional equipment. Digital RAW files receive only careful tonal and colour refinement, preserving the integrity of the original photograph.
Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.
The Triptych Collection Sizes
Your Subtitle Goes Here
Triptych Size Guide
For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.
In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.
Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.
Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.

Once the edition has sold out, no additional prints of that artwork will ever be produced.

Every Open and Limited Edition print is individually signed, embossed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Each Limited Edition print is hand-numbered—for example: 10/25
This indicates the tenth print produced from a total edition of twenty-five.
The Photographic Process

Many CFP Prints artworks begin with traditional photographic film.
Each negative or transparency is developed by hand using carefully selected chemistry before being professionally scanned for printing. Every stage of the workflow is managed with the objective of faithfully reproducing the original photograph rather than digitally transforming it.
Every photograph represents a real moment, captured through experience, patience and light—not artificial intelligence.
