Calm Before The Storm

"Calm Before The Storm - Nungwi, Zanzibar" - There are moments along the coast when the world seems to pause.

The sea has not yet become violent. The wind has not yet reached its full force. The sky remains luminous, even as darker clouds begin to gather along the horizon. Boats sit quietly upon the water, secured against what is coming.

Calm Before The Storm captures precisely that moment—the fragile interval between tranquillity and turbulence.

Photographed on the coast of Nungwi, Zanzibar, this atmospheric work looks beyond the postcard beauty of the island to reveal something more elemental. Turquoise water, traditional dhows, pale sand and an immense tropical sky combine in a scene where beauty and uncertainty occupy the same frame.

The storm has not arrived. But you can feel it coming.

Matthew 5:45

He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

The scripture from Matthew 5:45 provides an important foundation for the work. The verse speaks of the impartial nature of creation—the sun rising and rain falling upon everyone, regardless of circumstance.

This scripture mirrors the tension of the moment captured here—a stillness before the storm, when the light remains impending, and the world seems briefly untouched. The mood is calm, but the air whispers of change. The horizon holds its breath. Clouds swirl and darken. Dhows bob and creak as the waves lap against their bows. The storm is coming. Sails are tied up, anchors secure dhows from drifting and being lost in the storm. Can you feel it? It is coming. Yet there is a "Calm Before The Storm".

"Calm Before The Storm" invites contemplation. It is both a visual meditation and a tribute to Zanzibar’s layered identity—rich in beauty, shaped by nature, and bound to the ebb and flow of greater forces.

No AI—only light, patience, and presence, this is a digital print shot on Nikon Professional equipment.

"Calm Before The Storm" is a limited edition print that is a signed and embossed Limited Edition print series, in an exclusive collection. This print is part of a rare series crafted for collectors who understand the art of waiting for light, for colour, and have an appreciation of East African art.

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.

Film photographs are developed by hand before being scanned using professional equipment. Digital RAW files receive only careful tonal and colour refinement, preserving the integrity of the original photograph.

Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.

The Triptych Collection Sizes

Triptych Size Guide

For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.

In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.

Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.

Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.

Limited Editions

Limited Editions are permanently restricted to 25 prints worldwide, regardless of the size or medium selected.

Once the edition has sold out, no additional prints of that artwork will ever be produced.

Signing & Numbering

Every Open and Limited Edition print is individually signed, embossed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Each Limited Edition print is hand-numbered—for example: 10/25

This indicates the tenth print produced from a total edition of twenty-five.

Many CFP Prints artworks begin with traditional photographic film.

Each negative or transparency is developed by hand using carefully selected chemistry before being professionally scanned for printing. Every stage of the workflow is managed with the objective of faithfully reproducing the original photograph rather than digitally transforming it.

Every photograph represents a real moment, captured through experience, patience and light—not artificial intelligence.

Every CFP Prints artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA)—a signed and embossed document that formally certifies the originality, provenance, and technical details of the artwork.

Issued with both Limited Edition and Open Edition works, the certificate confirms that the artwork was produced exclusively by CFP Prints using museum-quality archival materials and professional printing standards.

Collectors, galleries, and institutions are encouraged to retain the Certificate of Authenticity with the artwork at all times. It forms an important part of the artwork’s provenance and assists in verifying authenticity for resale, exhibition, insurance, and archival cataloguing.
