A Road Runs Through It

"A Road Runs Through It, Soebatsfontein, South Africa" - There are moments in nature that seem to defy logic—where arid landscapes suddenly burst into vivid bloom, and desolate plains become oceans of colour. This image, captured near the remote settlement of Soebatsfontein in South Africa’s Northern Cape, tells the story of such a moment. It was taken during the famed Namaqualand Flower Season, when the desert—fed by winter rains—awakens in waves of wildflowers, carpeting the earth in dazzling hues of white, orange, purple, and gold.

Set against this floral spectacle, a road cuts through the land like a quiet question: Where does it lead? This is not merely a photograph of nature’s abundance; it is a contemplation on direction, choice, and passage through beauty. The vast open road invites the eye—and the spirit—to wander, to reflect, and perhaps to find clarity in solitude.

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.

The road itself is a striking metaphor. As referenced in Matthew 7:13–14: "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction..."
—this image subtly invites reflection on the paths we choose, both in life and in spirit. The wildflowers, so abundant and unrestrained, are not random; they bloom only when conditions align—when timing, temperature, and rain conspire in harmony. Similarly, some seeds lie dormant for years, waiting patiently for their season to arrive.

Soebatsfontein, situated in the Namakwa District of South Africa, lies far from urban noise, nestled between Springbok and Kamieskroon. Few visitors make the journey here, but those who do are rewarded with one of the world’s most extraordinary natural displays—ephemeral, unpredictable, and deeply moving. The stillness of the place lingers in the air, echoing through the wind-blown petals and sunlit silence.

This photograph is not just a document of a landscape—it is a witness to transformation, a celebration of patience rewarded, and a reverent nod to the wisdom embedded in the natural world. For the discerning collector, this piece captures both the fleeting wonder of Namaqualand and the eternal questions posed by a lone road through a field of bloom.

"A Road Runs Through It" is a signed and embossed Open Edition print—a moment of South Africa’s quiet majesty, preserved for those who see beauty not just in colour, but in meaning.

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.

Film photographs are developed by hand before being scanned using professional equipment. Digital RAW files receive only careful tonal and colour refinement, preserving the integrity of the original photograph.

Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.

The Triptych Collection Sizes

Triptych Size Guide

For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.

In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.

Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.

Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.

Limited Editions

Limited Editions are permanently restricted to 25 prints worldwide, regardless of the size or medium selected.

Once the edition has sold out, no additional prints of that artwork will ever be produced.

Signing & Numbering

Every Open and Limited Edition print is individually signed, embossed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Each print is hand-numbered—for example: 10/25

This indicates the tenth print produced from a total edition of twenty-five.

Many CFP Prints artworks begin with traditional photographic film.

Each negative or transparency is developed by hand using carefully selected chemistry before being professionally scanned for printing. Every stage of the workflow is managed with the objective of faithfully reproducing the original photograph rather than digitally transforming it.

Every photograph represents a real moment, captured through experience, patience and light—not artificial intelligence.
