The Karoo landscape, with its vast, arid beauty, offers a raw canvas for both the earth and the sky. Stretching across South Africa, this semi-desert region is defined by endless horizons, rugged mountains, and unique vegetation that evoke a sense of timelessness. At night, the Karoo transforms into one of the clearest skies on Earth, where the stars shine with a brilliant intensity, free from the interference of city lights.

The Karoo is divided into two main regions: the Great Karoo and the Little Karoo. The Little Karoo is bordered to the south by the Outeniqua and Langeberg Mountains, which run east-west parallel to the coast, and to the north by the Swartberg Mountain Range, which also runs east-west. The Great Karoo lies to the north of the Swartberg.

Additionally, there are 29 colloquial sub-divisions of the region that may not be depicted on physical maps. The landscape, while harsh, varies between desert and grasslands, creating a place of magical beauty. It tells stories of explorers, koppies, windmills, and sheep farming, where life is simple yet challenging.
