Sanctuary Reflected: A Monochrome Psalm At Sunset Dam
Sanctuary Reflected: A Monochrome Psalm At Sunset Dam
“Sanctuary Reflected: A Monochrome Psalm At Sunset Dam, Lower Sabie, Kruger National Park, South Africa” - In the heart of Kruger National Park’s Lower Sabie region lies Sunset Dam, a place where stillness becomes language and water mirrors the heavens. “Sanctuary Reflected: A Monochrome Psalm at Sunset Dam” was captured during the crisp quiet of a winter game drive, using a Fuji 6×17 medium format panoramic camera and Fuji Acros 100 film. The result is a black-and-white composition that invites contemplation and quiet awe.
Here, a tall single tree stands sentinel—a skeletal silhouette framed against a softly luminous sky. Its reflection stretches across the dam's surface, which lies so still it blurs the line between substance and shadow. Hippos patrol the far banks and circle the tree, occasionally snorting. The reeds, the shoreline, even the scattered stones seem to pause mid-breath, allowing the landscape to hum with understated reverence. Every textural detail, rendered with the rich tonal latitude of Acros 100, emerges as a whisper: graphite greys, pewter skies, silver-lit water.
Psalm 23:2
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.
The panoramic format enhances the experience of expansiveness, not simply in dimension but in spirit. It is a visual psalm, unfolding slowly, asking nothing of the viewer but presence. And in that presence, something begins to restore—like the verse that inspired it.
Sunset Dam is well known for its thriving wildlife and serene vistas. But in this image, it becomes something deeper: a sacred pause, a sanctuary not only for the creatures that gather at its banks, but for those who seek rest from a louder world. Here, silence is the truest form of witness.
Psalm 23:2 imbues the scene with spiritual resonance. These are indeed the “quiet waters” of scripture—places where stillness becomes balm and the soul is gently returned to itself. In black and white, stripped of colour’s distraction, the scene becomes elemental, timeless, enduring.
This work speaks to collectors and connoisseurs who find meaning in the interplay between wilderness and worship, simplicity and depth. Ideal for gallery spaces and refined interiors, “Sanctuary Reflected” holds the room not with drama, but with peace. It is African fine art at its most meditative—an offering for those who understand that quietude is not absence, but presence perfected.
This is a signed and embossed Limited Edition print, strictly limited to just 25 pieces, ensuring its exclusivity.
Price range: $1 500.00 through $2 000.00

The Collections

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.

Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.
The Triptych Collection Sizes

Triptych Size Guide
For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.
In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.
Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.
Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.
