"Ready To Launch, Sutherland, Northern Cape, South Africa" - In the stillness of the Hantam Karoo—a vast, windswept plateau where silence stretches between rocky outcrops and open skies—a moment of charged tension unfolds. Captured just seconds before action, "Ready To Launch" portrays a young male cheetah crouched low in the semi-arid brush, his golden eyes fixed, muscles coiled, and ears drawn back in a primal warning.
Taken at a private reserve near Sutherland, this intimate photograph was made possible thanks to radio collaring efforts that aid in tracking and conservation. Using a Nikon 600mm f/4 lens, I remained at a respectful distance, yet could feel the weight of his presence press through the lens. To witness this apex predator in such heightened awareness, ready to defend, attack, or disappear in a blur, is to be reminded of the battlefield of the wild—a realm as ancient as the mountains that frame it.

In the cheetah’s stance is a sermon in motion: preparation, purpose, and presence.
Set against the rugged elegance of the Karoo, where vegetation clings to life and life clings to instinct, this piece embodies not only African wildlife but the raw pulse of creation. Here, where snow can dust the plains and summer scorches the land, survival is both battle and blessing.
