Morning Has Broken In Laaiplek

"Morning Has Broken in Laaiplek – Bokkomlaan, Laaiplek, South Africa" - In the hush of early morning, before the boats stir and the air carries the scent of sea and salt, a solitary jetty extends quietly into the still waters of Bokkomlaan. At its edge, two seagulls perch on weathered poles, surveying the dawn beneath a sky brushed with soft West Coast blues and dramatic white cumulus—like sails frozen in time. Morning Has Broken in Laaiplek captures the soul of a place where life moves in rhythm with the tides and the skies sing of beginnings.

Shot on a 4×5 inch large format camera using a 6×12cm roll film back with Kodak Professional Ektar 100, the scene glows with a clarity and depth that only film can offer. Ektar’s high saturation and ultra-fine grain lend a painterly intensity to the hues: the soft cobalt of the sky, the pearly whites of the clouds, and the dark, oil-slick wood of the jetty all rendered with timeless elegance.

Laaiplek, nestled within the Cape’s rugged West Coast, is a place where tradition still whispers through the breeze and the water reflects the quiet prayers of a fishing village long shaped by sea and faith. There’s a sacredness to mornings here—unhurried, untouched. It is a place of deep-rooted wisdom, where fishermen pass down knowledge like heirlooms, and life is lived close to the elements.

The verse from Psalms 103:11–12: anchors the photograph in grace:“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy…”
A poetic parallel to the vast sky that crowns the composition, it calls us to contemplate the mercy woven into quiet things—the stillness of water, the solitude of birds, the first light breaking over the sea.

Morning Has Broken in Laaiplek is not merely a landscape—it is a meditation. A visual psalm. A pause. It is for those who collect not just images, but atmosphere; who understand that beauty lies in restraint, and that there are places in the world where time still breathes.

Psalms 103:11-12
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

The Collections

Every collection represents years of exploration, patience and careful craftsmanship. Some photographs are captured digitally, while others originate on traditional photographic film.

Film photographs are developed by hand before being scanned using professional equipment. Digital RAW files receive only careful tonal and colour refinement, preserving the integrity of the original photograph.

Collections are available as either Open Editions or Limited Editions, depending on the artwork.

The Triptych Collection Sizes

Triptych Size Guide

For Triptych Collection artworks, the selected size applies consistently across all three panels.

In compositions where the side panels are portrait and the centre panel is landscape, the selected size refers to the maximum height of the artwork. For example, when A3 is selected, the two portrait side panels are produced to the A3 long dimension, and the centre landscape panel is scaled proportionally to match that same height.

Where all three panels are landscape or all three are portrait, the selected format remains consistent throughout the set — A0 is A0, A1 is A1, A2 is A2 and A3 is A3. Sizes are not mixed between panels.

Available Triptych Collection sizes: A0, A1, A2 and A3.

Limited Editions

Limited Editions are permanently restricted to 25 prints worldwide, regardless of the size or medium selected.

Once the edition has sold out, no additional prints of that artwork will ever be produced.

Signing & Numbering

Every Open and Limited Edition print is individually signed, embossed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Each print is hand-numbered—for example: 10/25

This indicates the tenth print produced from a total edition of twenty-five.

Many CFP Prints artworks begin with traditional photographic film.

Each negative or transparency is developed by hand using carefully selected chemistry before being professionally scanned for printing. Every stage of the workflow is managed with the objective of faithfully reproducing the original photograph rather than digitally transforming it.

Every photograph represents a real moment, captured through experience, patience and light—not artificial intelligence.

Every CFP Prints artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA)—a signed and embossed document that formally certifies the originality, provenance, and technical details of the artwork.

Issued with both Limited Edition and Open Edition works, the certificate confirms that the artwork was produced exclusively by CFP Prints using museum-quality archival materials and professional printing standards.

Collectors, galleries, and institutions are encouraged to retain the Certificate of Authenticity with the artwork at all times. It forms an important part of the artwork’s provenance and assists in verifying authenticity for resale, exhibition, insurance, and archival cataloguing.
